The high school track season opened up last week for area teams and for Atchison senior Alex Martin the season couldn’t have started off any better.

The Redmen competed in the Holton Invitational last Tuesday and Martin picked up two gold medals winning the 100 and 200 meter dashes fairly easily.

He racked up the 100 meter crown with a time of 11.09, and dominated the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.96 which was the winning time by nearly a full second.

Martin’s quick start to the season comes after earning trips to the state meet the last two seasons, as he qualified in the 400 meter dash his sophomore season and in the 200 meter dash last season.

Martin will look to earn a repeat trip back to Wichita and continue his strong start to the season as Atchison will host an invitational on Thursday.
