For the first time since 2006 when they won a state championship, the Maur Hill-Mount Academy boys earned a return trip to Hutchinson and the state tournament last season with one of the best seasons in school history.
The Ravens are off to an even better start this season, as MH-MA is a perfect 10-0 and ranked second in Class 3A after winning the McLouth Invitational Championship last week.
A big key to the success of the Ravens these past two seasons has been the play of senior Zach Schwinn, who is coming of being named the co-MVP of the McLouth Invitational last week while also notching his 1,000th point of his career.
In Maur Hill-Mount Academy’s opening round win over Cair Paravel Schwinn delivered a 15-point outing on three 3-pointers, before hitting three more triples and scoring 22 points in the Ravens’ semifinal win over Silver Lake.
He finished off the tournament with another solid outing in the MH-MA’s championship win over Jeff West, as he finished with 8 points on one 3-pointer and five points coming in the second half.
Schwinn has been outstanding all season long and is coming off a junior season in which he recorded over 100 assists, breaking the school record at MH-MA.
The Ravens and Schwinn will look to continue their success into the second half of the season and make a return trip to Hutch with hopes of repeating the 2006 season.
