In a year where the Big 7 League race on the boys side may be as wide open as it has been in recent years, the Jeff West boys find themselves just one game back of first place with a 5-2 league record.
A big key to the success of the Tigers has been the play of sophomore Joshua Broxterman who delivered two 15-plus point outings in the Tigers 2-0 week last week.
Broxterman opened up the week with 16 points on two 3-pointers in Jeff West’s 61-25 win over Holton Tuesday and followed that up with 23 points in the Tigers 68-55 win over Nemaha Central on Friday.
He currently leads the Tigers in scoring at 12.4 points per game, while pulling down nearly five rebounds per contest to go along with recording three steals a night.
Last season Broxterman averaged 10 points per game as a freshman and also all-league recognition which is tough to do in the rugged Big 7 League.
Broxterman and the Tigers will look to continue their 7-3 start to the year this week at the McLouth Invitational and make a late run towards a Big 7 League title.
