Cox's Leg and Defense Has Sabetha Into Sectional Round of 3A Playoffs
Braeden Cox

From the high school football ranks to even the professional ranks having a solid kicker can put you from being a good team to a great team.

It’s not often though that a great kicker can play other positions as well, but that is the case for Sabetha’s Braeden Cox who is coming off a huge performance in the Bluejays 26-8 win over Perry Lecompton in the 3A playoffs.

Kicking the football Cox was a perfect 2-for-2 on extra points, while he also nailed two 38-yard field goals.

Along with being perfect on his kicks Cox also made an impact on defense, as the senior recorded an 85-yard pick-six which wound up being the only touchdown scored in the second half.

He has been nearly automatic on PATs this season, as he is 42 of 48 on the year while also making 5 of 6 field goal attempts with his longest being 39 yards.

Cox has also been great on defense with 24 tackles and a team-leading six interceptions, while on offense he has caught eight passes for 147 yards and three touchdowns.

He has been an All-Big 7 League kicker the last two seasons, nailing 53 of 57 extra point attempts a year ago to go along with drilling a 28-yard field goal as well.

Cox has helped the defending 3A State Champs off to a perfect 10-0 start to the year and will look to keep things rolling this Friday night, as the Bluejays will travel to Parsons for the sectional round of the playoffs with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m.
