For the past five seasons the Atchison Lady Red volleyball team has dominated the Kansas City-Atchison League winning the regular season title going undefeated the last three years.

This season the Lady Red made sure to make it six straight league championships, wrapping up a fourth straight undefeated league title with a perfect 10-0 record after two wins over Washington last week.

A big key to the success of the Lady Red has been the play of senior Mattie Dougherty, who is looking to earn a third straight first team all-KCAL selection.

Dougherty has had a strong senior campaign recording over 250 kills, with 12 kills coming in Monday’s five set loss to Tonganoxie.

In the Lady Red’s home meet last weekend Dougherty shined with 30 kills, 10 aces, an 86 percent serve receive and a 90 percent serve percentage.

Her biggest day came in Atchison’s second place finish at the Nemaha Central Invite earlier this season, as she recorded over 50 kills on the day which led the team.

Dougherty is a two-time KCAL first team selection and is well on her way to a third straight as the Lady Red are 30-7 on the season and set to host a 4A sub-state Saturday.
