Jensen's Big Night Gives Doniphan West Third Straight Win
Cooper Jensen

Heading into year one of 8-man football, the Doniphan West Mustangs weren’t sure what to expect or what they would get from a roster of just 14 kids.

Not only do the Mustangs have just 14 active players, but 10 of those players are freshman.

Despite the low numbers Doniphan West is out to a 3-3 start to the season, with junior Cooper Jensen stepping up and leading the way for a young squad under first-year head coach Jeff Savage.

This past Friday night Jensen shined in the Mustangs 48-32 win over Wetmore, as the converted quarterback compiled six touchdowns in the win.

Passing the football Jensen was 9 of 15 for 128 yards and two touchdowns, while he also ran 22 times for 165 yards and four more scores.

What may be the most remarkable aspect of the stat line is the fact that entering the season Jensen was just a back-up quarterback, so being the signal caller is still fairly new for Jensen.

He was forced to convert from running back to quarterback after an injury to starter Trent Spiker, and never missed a beat while also never coming off the field playing both sides of the ball.

Jensen has helped the Mustangs win three straight games after an 0-3 start, and Doniphan West will look to try to continue their success this week playing host to Blue Valley-Randolph.
