ACCHS Tiger Football Team
|
For the past two-plus seasons, the ACCHS football team has struggled finding success dropping 19 games dating back to the 2015 season when they beat McLouth in district play.
All of the disappointment from those 19 games were erased Friday, as the Tigers and second-year head coach Corey Thomas opened up the 2018 season with a resounding victory at home beating Oskaloosa 46-0. ACCHS jumped out to a 38-0 lead at halftime, forcing a running clock the entirety of the second half.
The Tigers entered Friday night looking to bring a strong presence into the trenches and they did just that, rushing for 355 yards on only 35 attempts good for a 10-yard per carry average.
Tucker Smith recorded a big game coming off being named an all-state honorable mention selection last season at running back, as the junior racked up 173 yards on 10 rushes with a touchdown along with a 68-yard interception return for a score.
Shawn Boos also racked up 96 yards on the ground with a touchdown, while Trystin Myers added two more scores on 54 yards rushing to go along with recording 10 ½ tackles on defense which led the team.
The Tigers have the pieces in place to have a successful season in the Northeast Kansas League after making the switch from the Big 7, but will face a tough test Friday night traveling to defending league champion Jackson Heights at 7:00pm.
