For the first time since 2010 the Holton Wildcat softball team is headed to State as they earned their spot at State by winning the 4A-DII Regional title last week at Rock Creek.
While the Holton Wildcats overall are a relatively young team a pair of seniors have been leading the charge in many ways for the team this season. One of those seniors is Sarah Bond who in Regionals tossed all 14 innings in both wins as Holton beat Rock Creek 10-3 in the Semifinals and won 5-2 over Jeff West in the Championship.
Bond earned the win in the circle in the Semifinals tossing a complete game going seven innings giving up three runs on just six hits and five walks, while striking out nine and offensively got on base twice via a walk. The Holton senior followed that up by tossing another seven inning complete game in the Championship win over Jeff West surrendering only two runs on five hits and no walks and struck out six. Sarah added a 2-3 performance at the plate in the Championship with a solo home run.
On the season Bond has been strong at the plate and in the circle for Holton which ultimately earned her Big Seven League All-League first team honors at pitcher for the second straight year. Bond has a 9-2 record on the year with a 2.48 ERA, starting 11 games with 10 complete games and has 89 strikeouts to 24 walks on the season. At the plate Bond is hitting .439 on the season with 25 hits, 18 RBI and 13 runs scored.
Sarah after this season is set to continue her softball career in college has she will play at Highland Community College.
After capturing the Big Seven League title and a Regional title Bond and the Holton Wildcats have their sights set on the challenge of the 4A-DII State tournament.
