The Valley Heights Mustang girls’ basketball team has appeared to find their stride and gallop putting together strong plenty of strong performances winning seven of their last eight and sit at 10-4 on the season.
After a second place finish at the Twin Valley League tournament Valley Heights took down Onaga and Solomon last week with a 58-13 win over Onaga and an 81-23 road win over Solomon. A big piece of the team’s success this season has been the play of sophomore, Sam Vermetten who has stepped up her game in a big this season. Vermetten recorded 12 points in the win over Onaga and 14 points against Solomon.
Sam on the year has not only impacted the Mustangs with her scoring but also in several other ways averaging 14.6 points, 13.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.6 steals per game. The Mustang sophomore has tallied double figures in 12 of the 14 games this season and nine-straight with her season high coming against Blue Valley-Randolph as she scored 24 points.
Vermetten and the Mustangs look to continue their trot the rest of the season and finish the regular season strong to gear up for a postseason push.
