Sabetha Bluejay Football Team

The Sabetha Bluejays flight pattern for the season guided them all the way to Hutchinson and ultimately the top prize in Class 3A the State title as the Bluejays capped the 2017 season with the schools third State title.
After an 8-1 regular season that saw strong and stout play from the Bluejays with their potent rushing attack and strong defense the flight path for the team had a destination of Atchison to open the playoffs as Sabetha faced off with Maur Hill-Mount Academy and won 56-14 in the first round of the playoffs. The action next transitioned home for the next two games as Sabetha beat Perry Lecompton 28-6 in the Regional round of the playoffs and then topped Osage City 56-13 in Sectionals. On to Sub-State the Bluejays went and unbeaten Silver Lake stood in the way for the Bluejays clipped the Eagles wings and won a tough 17-14 battle to earn a spot in Hutchinson for the State title. The State Championship proved to be a defensive battle and the Bluejays made the clutch plays to collar the Marysville Bulldogs and win 7-6 to claim the 3A State title.
The ground game led Sabetha’s offense throughout the year as the team averaged 35.9 points per game while rushing for 325.4 yards per game. Bluejays amassed 4,555 yards rushing on season with five guys surpassing 500 yards each and eight different guys had a rushing touchdown on the season making the backfield quite diverse.
Defensively the Bluejays stymied their opponents continually over the course of the season surrendering only 9.1 points per game, giving up eight points or less to eight of their 14 opponents and only two opponents scored more than 14 points on them in a single game all season. Six players recorded 50+ tackles to lead the Bluejays, while the team notched 16 sacks and forced 33 turnovers with (22 interceptions and 11 fumble recoveries).
Sabetha capped their football season hoisting the 3A State trophy and finished the season 13-1.
