Marysville Bulldogs are into the Class 3A State title game for the first time since 2009 and riding the strong performance of their offense this season to a 12-1 record.
The Bulldogs topped unbeaten Phillipsburg in the 3A Sub-State round of the playoffs to move into the Championship game winning 30-24 and senior quarterback, Jack Blumer had another strong performance as he’s helped guide Marysville all season. Blumer in the win was 15-23 for 217 yards with a touchdown and ran for 96 yards on nine carries.
Throughout the playoffs the Blumer was put together solid showings helping Marysville top their opponents. The Bulldogs downed Norton 62-12 in the first round and Blumer was 14-19 for 182 yards with a touchdown, while in the Regional round of the playoffs Marysville took down Larned 36-28 on the road and Jack tossed for 238 yards with a pair of touchdowns and ran for another. In the Sectional round it was a 42-25 win over Cheney for Marysville and Blumer was 13-22 for 222 yards with a pair of touchdowns.
On the year Blumer has put up some eye popping numbers for a Bulldog offense that averages just under 400 total yards per game and 42.8 points per game. On the year Blumer was completed 69.9% of his passes (188-269) for 2,940 yards with 30 touchdowns and only five interceptions, while he’s been a dual threat rushing for 903 yards on 110 carries (8.2 yards per carry) with 14 touchdowns.
Marysville has turned their program around from a 32-game losing streak a few years back to now a chance to win the 3A State title and the mentality instilled into the athletes has helped guide the program and Blumer is just one of guys that exemplifies that for the Bulldogs as he looks to help his team cap the season on top with the 3A State title.
