Competing in multiple sports at the during the same season is a tough thing let alone find success doing so but Axtell Eagle sophomore, Quinn Buessing has been doing that competing in both football and cross country.
Buessing recently helped the Eagle football team dispatch the Blue Valley-Randolph Rams 62-12 to clinch a playoff berth in 8-Man Division and improve to 6-2 on the season. The sophomore was 11-21 for 144 yards with two touchdowns while rushing for 88 yards on eight carries with another touchdown. On the season he’s been strong all-around completing 63.2% of his passes (120-190) for 1,444 yards with 25 touchdowns to only five interceptions and has ran for 434 yards on 88 carries with nine scores. Buessing also has recorded 49 tackles and punts for the team averaging a punt of 30.1 yards.
The next day after a playoff clinching win over Blue Valley, Quinn took to the cross country scene to compete at the 1A Regional at Washington County and qualified for State with a sixth place finish at Regionals. A time of 17:37.64 earned the sophomore sixth place and led the Axtell boy’s team as they earned a spot at State as a team after finishing third at Regionals. Over the course of the cross country season registered six Top five finishes including first place at the Nemaha Central Invite and fourth at the Twin Valley League meet.
Buessing has plenty of left ahead of him this year and in his high school career but for now heads into the final week of the football season with his teammates looking to compete against Hanover and then go to the playoffs and then turns his attention to the cross country 1A State competition on Saturday.
