Valley Heights Mustangs have pounded their first two opponents of the season with the rushing attack out of the triple option offense picking up a pair of wins in the process to open the season 2-0 and jump into many 2-1A polls across the State.
Last week Valley Heights won the battle of the Mustangs against Doniphan West in a Twin Valley League showdown winning 60-20. In the contest Valley Heights had over 500 yards of offense with 435 yards on the ground and helping lead the charge was sophomore, Cole Coggins who has busted out in a big way to start the 2017 season. Coggins toted the rock 18 times against Doniphan West and piled up 198 yards (11 ypc) and scored three touchdowns, while on defense snagged an interception.
Coggins had a strong showing in week one against Troy also rushing for 165 yards in that contest and through just two games has 363 yards on 27 carries averaging 13.4 yards per carry while scoring six touchdowns. He’s also made an impact on defense with five tackles and an interception. The Mustangs as a team have rush for just under 800 yards in two games.
Building upon a playoff season last year Valley Heights is off to a strong start to 2017 and behind the play of Coggins and his teammates looks to be a team that will be tough to beat in TVL action and District play in the coming weeks.
