Skyler Saunders

Valley Heights Mustang girls track has been pretty strong the past few years winning a pair of team State titles and this year the lady Mustangs track team is quite strong again.

Four different girls earned spots at the State track meet in Class 2A with their performances at Regionals in Jefferson County North last week and helping lead the charge was junior, Skyler Saunders who won two individual Regional titles and qualified in another event. Saunders with a jump of 5’04 took the gold in the high jump, while a leap of 35’10 won her the triple jump Regional title and she also took third in the pole vault (8’00). The lady Mustangs also won the Regional team title at JCN.

During the season Saunders has posted a top three performance in the high jump, triple jump and pole vault more often than not, winning the high jump all but once. At the Twin Valley League meet the Valley Heights junior earned the League title in the triple jump and high jump, while tying for second in the pole vault. She also competed at the annual KU Relays competing against top flight competition in the triple jump.

Last year at State Saunders helped the lady Mustangs win the Class 2A State team title by winning the State title in the high jump and also medaling in the triple jump and pole vault with fifth and seventh place finishes.

The Mustangs and Saunders have their sights set on finishing another track season with strong performances as they compete at the State track meet in Wichita.
