Nemaha Central Thunder, Jacob Koelzer Sprinting & Leaping Past Competition

Leaping and sprinting past the competition that has been Nemaha Central Thunder senior, Jacob Koelzer over the course of high school track career and he has put together a strong final campaign in high school this track season.

Last week at the Class 3A Regionals at Silver Lake the Nemaha Central Thunder boys behind the performances of Koelzer and his teammates brought home the Regional title. Koelzer earned the right to return to Wichita for the State track meet where he will compete in four events after taking three individual Regional titles and partnering with Austin Deters, Alec Suther and Luke Haverkamp to win the 4x100 meter relay (43.59). The Thunder senior sprinted to the gold in the 100 and 200 meter dashes with times of 10.76 and 22.43, while posting a leap of 21’08 to win the long jump.

All throughout the track season Koelzer has been at the top of the competitions he’s competed in placing first in the 100 and long jump all season, while notching first all but once in the 200 (took second the other time). Jacob was also partner of several first place finishes for the Thunder boys 4x100 meter relay team, too. At the Big Seven League meet he earned league titles in all four events.

With qualifying for State Koelzer will attend the State track meet in Wichita all four years in high school. As junior last year he earned the 3A State title in the 100 meter dash and long jump, while taking second in the 200 meter dash and was part of the sixth place 4x100 meter relay team. His sophomore year he won the 3A long jump crown and placed second in the 100 and 200 meter dashes and his freshman year at B&B in Class 1A earned fifth in the 100 meter dash at State.

Koelzer will wrap up his high school track career at the State track meet looking to finish his Thunder career strong and then continue his track career in college next year at Cloud County Community College.
