Jesse Burger

The Sabetha Bluejays boys golf team has been flying high all season notching top flight finishes all around and as the League meet and Regionals came around nothing was different as the Bluejays won the Big Seven League title and Regional title.

Last week the Bluejays repeated as the Big Seven League boys golf champions winning on their home course by 59 strokes posting a four-man team score of 318 and spear heading that score was the performance of sophomore, Jesse Burger who carded a 77 win the individual Big Seven League crown.

Burger and Sabetha followed up the League title with a 3A Regional title on their home course on Monday as a four-man team score of 326 won the Bluejays the Regional crown by 54 strokes. The Sabetha sophomore, Burger once again was at the forefront of the Bluejays success on the links shooting a 79 to win the Regional individual title.

Throughout the season Burger has been has been at the top of the standings for Sabetha finishing third or better in eight of the nine competitions with four individual first place finishes on the year. All that while partnering with his teammates great rounds to allow Sabetha to win seven of the nine competitions as a team and they took second in the other two.

Last year as a freshman, Burger earned a trip to State and helped Sabetha finish third as a team in Class 3A and individually tied for 41st (87).

Burger and Sabetha look to cap the boys golf season in a strong fashion as they continue their season at the Class 3A State next Monday at the Independence Country Club in Independence, Kansas.
