Marysville Boys Basketball Team

Back at State for first time since 2003 the Marysville Bulldog boys’ basketball team repeated their outcome of 2003 by winning their third State in school history, bringing home the Class 3A title.

The State tournament opened up for Marysville with a first round showdown with Silver Lake and earned the 62-44 win. Leading 30-24 at intermission Marysville outscored Silver Lake 32-20 in the second half, while hitting six three-pointers in the contest to push themselves to the win. Gabe Pieschl led the team with 20 points, while Bryson Meinhardt posted a double-double with 15 points and 16 rebounds and Adam Lindhorst chipped in 11 points.

In the Semifinals the Bulldogs routed Belle Plaine 68-35 running out to an 18-8 lead after the first quarter and coasting to the win by adding to their lead throughout the game with a 21-10 second quarter and 15-6 third quarter. Pieschl led Marysville once again scoring 29 points, while Meinhardt netted 10 points and the Bulldogs won the rebounding battle 44-16.

To claim the 3A Championship Marysville had to come from behind against the upset minded Cheney team. Down 13-9 after the first quarter and 25-19 at the half Marysville posted a 17-6 to ultimately complete the comeback and take the 3A State title with a 45-37 win. Pieschl posted 22 points as the team was 18-26 from the free throw line.

The Bulldogs who finished just 9-13 last year posted a 22-4 record this season with their 3A State title and had their first winning record since 2008-09.
