Jumping into the fold at the varsity level as a freshman is not an easy thing but some players are able to do it and one that has this season has been Jefferson County North Charger freshman, Josie Weishaar who is making a big impact for the 13-1 Chargers.
Weishaar is pouring in buckets for the Chargers this season posting double figures in the last six games and 12 times this season averaging 13.5 points per game, while shooting 46% from two-point range and 36% from three-point range. The freshman’s impact doesn’t stop with her scoring as she’s been a stat sheet stuffer all year averaging 5.8 rebounds, 2. 5 assists and two steals per game on the year.
Last week Josie helped the fifth ranked Class 2A girls team in JCN win a pair of road games as the Chargers beat McLouth 59-27 and Horton 56-48. Against McLouth Weishaar notched a 19 point performance to lead the team and followed that up by raining in five three-pointers and tying her season high against Horton with 20 points. On Monday at home against Immaculata she led the team again putting up 19 points in a 56-38 win.
Weishaar and the Chargers look poised to finish the regular season strong with six more Northeast Kansas League contests left and look to capture the League title while continuing their momentum to gear up for a run in the postseason.
