The nets started swinging last week with the open of the high school basketball season and the Horton Chargers opened the season strong as they downed Maur Hill-Mount Academy at home, 48-40.
The Chargers trailed by one at the end of the third quarter but behind a 13-5 fourth quarter pushed back to the lead and the 48-40 win to start the year 1-0. Leading the charge for the Chargers netting 18 points was junior, Kaitlyn McAfee.
McAfee returns to the fold for the Horton Chargers this year after missing all of her sophomore campaign on the court because of a knee injury. As a freshman she was an impact player starting for Horton and averaged 7.6 points per game and now back as a junior has started the season in a big way with her 18 point showing.
The Horton junior expects to be a key piece for Coach Ken Shippy and the Chargers and partners with her teammates to give Horton a strong team that looks to compete in the Northeast Kansas League.
