Marysville Bulldogs football team for years struggled to win a game that changed last years as the team snapped a long losing streak of 32-straight games and made the playoffs for the first time since 2010. That season last year has pushed the Bulldogs in the right direction as they are 5-2 this season and have won five-in-a-row.
Bulldogs most recently opened 3A District play last Friday with a 42-16 win over Beloit and helping lead the charge was senior tailback, Hunter Warnick who has been on the at front of the success this season for Marysville. Warnick had his best rushing game of the season in the win amassing 217 yards on 28 carries with three touchdowns, while catching two passes for 60 yards with another touchdown and made nine tackles also in the contest.
Marysville has been on a roll this season since opening the year 0-2 with a seven-point loss to Rossville and two-point loss to Abilene, both ranked teams in Class 3A & 4A-DI. Warnick has been one of the key pieces to the Bulldogs success this season rushing for 982 yards on 200 carries with eight touchdowns, while catching 10 passes with 122 yards and two touchdowns. The Marysville senior has carried a load on offense with 24+ carries very game and four games with 29+ carries, totaling 100+ yards in six of the seven games this season with the lone non-100 yard game being 90 yards rushing. His impact doesn’t stop on offense as he has totaled 59 tackles on the year with two sacks and a fumble recovery on defense.
Warnick and his teammates bought into the coaching style of Dustin Heuer and found success last year and even more this season. The Bulldogs behind the play of Warnick and his teammates look to finish the season strong with a District title within reach and another playoff berth, along with a winning record for the first time for Marysville since 2009.
