Atchison Redmen, Adam Smith Helping Football Team to 3-Peat as KCAL Champs
Adam Smith

The domination of the KCAL continued for Atchison last Friday beating KC Harmon 55-27 and three-peating as the League champs in the process going 5-0 in League play the last three years, while the Redmen are off to another tremendous start this year at 6-0 headed into District play.

A key piece to the success this season has been the play of senior, Adam Smith as he took over at quarterback this season and has helped guide Atchison to their third-straight League title and a 6-0 start to the season.

Smith last week was efficient going 5-7 for 136 yards with four touchdowns, while running the ball six times for 86 yards with two touchdowns. The senior made an impact on defense also recording nine tackles, three for loss in the victory over Harmon.

On the season Smith has filled in the quarterback role well taking advantage of the playmakers around him in the process has he’s 46-72 for 868 yards this season with 17 touchdowns to only one interception and has ran the ball 57 times for 449 yards with nine touchdowns, averaging 7.9 yards per carry. On defense Smith ranks second on the team in tackles with 40 with 10 tackles for loss and has an interception and fumble recovery. In five of the six games he has thrown for 130+ yards and two or more touchdowns, while in every game he’s ran for 48+ yards and at least one touchdown.

The Redmen fell short of the playoffs last year and Smith and company head into Districts this season with playoffs on the mind as they look to finish the season strong with a run in District play.
