JCN Charger Volleyball Off to Strong Start On Court
JCN Chargers Volleyball Team

Bump, set and spike the Jefferson County North lady Chargers volleyball team is spiking down the competition to open the season has they’re off to a 9-0 start this year.

That hot start includes the most recent action of going 5-0 at the Riley County Invite and picking up some tough wins. The Chargers started the Riley County Invite in pool play with three set wins over Valley Heights and Riley County, while beating Mission Valley in straight sets to get into the Semifinals. In the Semi’s JCN topped Clay Center in straight sets and then took down St. Mary’s in two sets to win the Championship contest and claim the Riley County Invite.

The tournament crown comes after a 4-0 start to the season for JCN winning all four of their Northeast Kansas League matches to start the year. Chargers opened the year with wins over Horton and two-time NEKL defend champs, Valley Falls, actually ending the Dragons 32-match win in NEKL play. Wins against Oskaloosa and Immaculata have also come this season so far for JCN on the court in NEKL action.

With the return of five starters, including a trio of All-NEKL players from last year set the Chargers up to be a strong team this year and they have proved it to start the season as they sit ranked fourth in Class 2A by the Kansas Volleyball Association. Both junior, Ravyn Jobbins and senior, Jentry Seichepine are back after earning first team All-League honors last year and senior, Kaylee Page returns after honorable mention All-League honors. All three of those gals are starters returning along with senior, Julie Schrick and junior, Annabelle Vaught.

A strong season last year but the JCN Chargers enter this season looking to build on that and accomplish more as they are chasing after their first NEKL title and State bid since 2013.
