Valley Falls Dragon Softball

The third time is the charm for the Valley Falls lady Dragons softball team as they made their third trip to State this year and captured the school’s first softball State title, winning the 2-1A crown.
After a 4-4 start the season the Dragons didn’t stop winning claiming the 2-1A State title in Pratt and closing out the season on a 17-game winning streak to finish 22-4 on the year and took second in the Northeast Kansas League.
Hosting Regional action the Dragons had a first round bye and in order to make the State tournament needed two wins on their home field. In the Semifinals Valley Falls routed Wabaunsee to the tune of a 13-2 win cruising to a third showdown with McLouth this time for the Regional title. The game proved to be tighter than the first two time matchups during the regular season but it was the same outcome as Valley Falls won 3-1 to earn a spot at State.
Going into State as the four seed the Dragons were pitted against the five seed Northern Heights and it proved to be a highly competitive game as Valley Falls just edged Northern Heights 2-1, winning the contest in walk-off fashion to move into the State Semifinals in Pratt. Facing the number one seed, Sedan in the Semifinals the Dragons cruised to the 21st win of the season routing Sedan 15-0. The scoring carried over from the Semifinals to the Finals for Valley Falls as they topped Ellinwood 11-2 to win the 2-1A State title.
The strong balance of Valley Falls propelled them throughout the season and ultimately guided the Dragons to their first ever 2-1A State softball title.
