Oskaloosa Bear, Dillion Grother Puts Together Strong Week In Track Action
Dillion Grother

As the end of the track regular season approaches last week was perhaps the best week of action for many track athletes including one Oskaloosa Bear senior.

Dillion Grother competed in three different meets with Oskaloosa last week and registered eight golds and a silver medal in competition, while helping his team put together top notch performances, too.

The week started off last Monday for Grother and the Oskaloosa track team at the Pleasant Ridge Invitational. Grother competed in the triple jump and leapt past the competition snagging first place behind a leap of 41’03.

The Bears continued their track season last Thursday at the Royal Valley Invitational and the Oskaloosa boys tallied a second place team performance led by Grother who took first in the 110 and 300 meter hurdles, triple jump and was part of the Bears 4x100 meter relay team who earned the gold. With times of 16.00 and 41.82 Dillion swept the 110 and 300 meter hurdles, winning the 110 by 1.6 seconds. For the second time in the week the gold in the triple jump was the Oskaloosa senior’s to be had as he posted a leap of 42’04 to take first by over a foot. Dillion also competed with three of his teammates and with a time of 44.74 took first in the 4x100 meter relay.

The week wrapped up at the Jefferson County North Invitational on Friday and the Oskaloosa boys track team once again posted a second place team performance with Grother leading the charge. Dillion swept the hurdle titles with times of 16.79 and 42.82 to win the 110 and 300 meter hurdles, while being a part of the 4x100 meter relay team again which earned first place, also (44.85). In the triple jump it was a second place finish for Dillion on the day with a leap of 40’05.50.

On the year Grother has put together plenty of strong performances like earning a trio of first place finishes in the 110 and 300 meter hurdles, along with the triple jump at the McLouth Invitational. He also took second in the pentathlon at the Jeff West Invitational and at the Oskaloosa Invitational early in the season took first in the 300 meter hurdles, third in the triple jump and fourth in the 110 meter hurdles.

Grother looks to continue his momentum from his latest performances as the NEKL meet approaches along with Regionals. The Oskaloosa senior has his eye on a return trip to the State track meet, a place where he place ninth in the 3A triple jump last year, and this year looks to compete in more events at State.
