Brandon Hurn and Joseph Kunkel

The dynamic duo of Joseph Kunkel (Junior) and Brandon Hurn (Senior) are leaders of the Hiawatha Tennis team.  They have been out for high school tennis each year and lead by example with their desire, work ethic, enthusiasm and their willingness to help others on the team.  

Last week, both Kunkel and Hurn went 6-1 on the week including going undefeated (3-0) to win the Marysville Tournament while also competing and placing at a much larger tourney against new competition at Topeka Seaman (3-1). 
 

Joseph has played #1 singles for two years and he is the type of player that fights hard to win matches.  He has played most of the number ones in our regional and has beaten all but one.  Kunkel is now 10-4 on the season.

Brandon Hurn has played #2 singles for two years, you can never count him out in a match, he never quits and he finds a way to win. Has done so by winning every one of his tie-breakers so far this season and has improved his overall record to 8-5 this year.

Both singles players look to build off their great 6-1 week as they set their sights on improving towards Regional and hopefully qualifying for State later this spring.
