The Class 2A State tournament looked really daunting with plenty of great teams and the Jackson Heights Cobras boys were back at State this year looking to make more noise after a first round last year and the Cobras struck upon their opportunity. The Cobras capped a great season with the 2A State title.
With only two losses the Cobras were still slotted in the five seed and took on four seed Berean Academy in the first round and won the battle with the Warriors 53-44 to get to the Semifinals. In the Semifinals the Cobras drew the upset minded Hill City squad who upset the one seed and Jackson Heights was prepared routing Hill City 68-48 to earn a trip to the State Championship game. In the State title affair the Cobras were faced with a unbeaten Salina-Sacred Heart team and Jackson Heights outdueled the Knights for the 65-55 win claiming the 2A State title.
In the schools 17th trip to the State tournament Jackson Heights won their third State title in school history and first since 2003. The Cobras finished 24-2 on the season and on top of winning the State title won the Northeast Kansas League title for the second straight year this year winning it outright by going 16-0 in League play.
