Back to the State tournament for the first time since 2013 the Hanover lady Wildcats have put together a strong season as they go to the Class 1A-DI State tournament with an 18-6 after winning the Sub-State Championship at Wakefield last week.
Junior, Ashton Jueneman has helped lead the way this season for the Wildcats and it was no different during Sub-State. After a first round bye the Wildcats took down fellow Twin Valley League team in Clifton-Clyde in the Semifinals winning 45-22 and Jueneman posted 10 points, four rebounds and an assist in the victory.
That put the Wildcats one win away from a trip to State and standing in front of them was Rural Vista. Hanover pounced on Rural Vista early and cruised to the Sub-State Championship winning 66-18 and Ashton notched 19 points, eight rebounds and two steals in the victory.
On the season Jueneman has been a steady hand on the floor with her play and leadership for the Wildcats leading the team in points per game with 13.6 and rebounds per game with 8.6. She’s also averaging 1.3 steals per game and 1.1 blocks per game, while shooting 57% from the floor and 70% from the free throw line. The Wildcats have played 23 games (other win via the BYE in Sub-State) and Jueneman has posted double figures in 21 of those 23 contests, while recording seven double-double’s this season.
The Wildcats may head into the State tournament with six losses and a lower seed but they are extremely battled tested with four of the six losses to teams that are also at State and the other two to teams that made at the Sub-State Semifinals. Hanover will be on the prowl to make some noise at State and junior, Ashton Jueneman will be leading the way with her teammates when they take to the floor.
