The season has taken flight for the lady Eagles of Axtell and they head into the holiday break with already eight games under their belt and a 6-2 record in those games, with both losses coming in tough very close affairs.
For one Eagle in particular the start of the season has come with several top notch performances as senior, Courtney Heinen has looked like she’s been in midseason form already for Axtell in the first eight games including a pair of 20 point performances in two wins last week.
Last week started off with an impressive 57-38 win on the road against a tough Washington County team and Heinen speared headed the Eagles performance with 20 points, six rebounds and four steals. That game was followed up with a 55-36 win against Clifton-Clyde for Axtell and Courtney once again scored 20 points.
On the season it’s been double figures in all but one game thus far this season for Heinen with 20 or more points four times, including opening the season with a 34 points performance against Marysville a game in which she posted a double-double with 11 rebounds. For the season Courtney is averaging 18.1 points per game, 8.5 rebounds per game and about four steals per game.

The Eagles have their sights set on big goals this season looking to be atop the Twin Valley League and more and with Heinen and her fellow teammates back the flight path of the Axtell girl’s basketball season has taken off with a strong start.
