The Falls City Sacred Heart Irish football team has been good for quite some time and haven’t shied away from taking on other top notch teams and that was the case last Friday night.
The Irish squared off with the then Class D2 number one team in Exeter-Milligan, a team that is two-time State champs and riding a 31-game winning streak coming into the contest. Sacred Heart would put an end to that streak and in impressive fashion with a 42-26 win.
Leading the charge for the Irish senior quarterback, Bailey Witt who after three years at end moved to the backfield to take the reins of the Irish offense this year. Witt went on a scoring spree for Sacred Heart accounting for six touchdowns in the contest, posting 105 yards on 20 carries with five touchdowns, while in the air going 3-5 for 75 yards and another score. His offensive line of Theo Rohrer, Bryan Jorn and Reggie Johansen helped open things up for Witt throughout the contest. Irish with the win scooped up the number one stop from Exeter-Milligan in the latest Class D2 Nebraska football rankings.
On the season Witt has been an integral part of Sacred Heart’s success going 26-46 for 538 yards with 10 touchdowns, while completing 56.5% of his passes and adding 302 yards on 49 carries (6.2 ypc) this year with eight touchdowns.
The Irish are 5-1 on the season and riding a five-game winning streak after a season opening loss to a top team in Missouri (North Andrew) and look to continue that momentum in their remaining two games of the regular season and into the playoffs.
