You can’t start a season better than the lady Bluejays of Sabetha girl’s tennis team has as they are a perfect 28-0 on the season through two competitions.
Sabetha took flight to start the season at the Wamego Invitational and went 16-0 to claim the tournament title, while following that up with a 12-0 showing at the Hayden Quad to take first again. Throughout the competition the lady Bluejays tennis competitors have only surrendered four or more games in a set their opponents in five of the 28 matches played.
In singles action Lexi Wenger has dominated her competition, competing in the singles number one action and only surrendering three games in the seven matches she has competed in going 7-0. Wenger notched wins of 6-0, 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1 at the Wamego Invite, while following that up at the Hayden Quad with wins of 8-0, 8-1 and 5-0 default wins. The singles competition number two has featured Courtney Plattner for Sabetha and she too is 7-0 on the season. Plattner opened the season at the Wamego Invite with wins of 6-1, 6-1, 6-2 and 6-4, while picking up wins of 8-1, 8-4 and 8-7 (7-3) at the Hayden Quad to remain unbeaten.
Doubles competition has been just as impressive for Sabetha; the tandem of Jena Winkler and Nicole Brey had paced the way competing in Doubles number one action and posting a 7-0 record thus far. Winkler and Brey won their matches at the Wamego Invite to start the season 6-0, 6-1, 6-2 and 6-3 and continue their strong start to the season by going 3-0 at the Hayden Quad with wins of 8-0, 8-3 and 8-7 (8-6). In Doubles number two action the team of Mollie Robinson and Savanna Metzger went 4-0 at the Wamego Invite scoring wins of 6-0, 6-1, 6-1 and 6-1, while at the Hayden Quad Metzger teamed with Lauren Edelman and went 3-0 with 8-2, 8-7 (7-4) and 8-1 wins.
The lady Bluejays are riding a strong wave of success early in the season and look to continue to take flight as the season rolls along and build upon their strong start to the season.
