Flying through the air the shot put and discus have all track season to the top marks just about every time Hiawatha Red Hawk junior, Emily Gartner has thrown them.

That trend didn’t stop at Regionals as she tossed her way back to the State competition by registering winning marks at the Class 3A Osage City Regional. Behind a throw of 139’03, Emily picked up the gold and Regional title in the discus, while surpassing 40 feet in the shot put with a throw of 40’02.50 to set a new school record. Gartner also holds the discus record which she has broken this year.

It’s been dominate performances inside the throwing circles for Gartner all year as she has six first place finishes in the shot put with one second place, while winning the discus seven times with two second place finishes. That includes the Big Seven League titles in both events and an impressive second place performance at the KU Relays against top performers from all classes, as she competed against 23 others.

The Red Hawk junior returns to Wichita for State this week and has her sights set on more top notch performances looking to better her third and seventh place finishes in the shot put and discus in 3A from State last year.
