Royal Valley Panther, Sarah Beam Hitting the Cover Off the Softball
Sarah Beam

The ball as has been flying off the bat and whizzing by opposing batters all season for the Royal Valley lady Panthers softball team as they have rolled out to a 15-1 record this  season.

The success on the diamond has come from across the board for Head Coach Corey Katzer and his team as everyone has contributed throughout the season in many facets. One gal that is helping lead the way especially on the offensive end is sophomore, Sarah Beam who leads the team in batting average, hits, RBI’s and home runs, while ranking second on the team in doubles, runs scored and walks.

Last week the Panthers took down Holton on the road for a series sweep winning 16-4 and 10-1, while wrapping up the week by topping Hiawatha in a pair of 15-0 wins. Beam helped lead the charge for the offense finishing with seven hits, including two home runs and seven RBI’s in the four games. On Monday Beam went 2-3 with three RBI, three walks, four runs scored and a home run in six plate appearances against Nemaha Central as Royal Valley swept the Thunder with 15-0 & 16-0 wins.

On the season Beam is batting a blistering .577, while playing second base for the Panthers and has 30 hits with 19 of them being for extra bases, including a team high seven homers. The sophomore has scored 29 runs and notched 28 RBI’s, while drawing 10 walks and has only struck out once in 63 plate appearances.

The Panthers continue to be on the prowl with only two series left in the regular season as against Riverside and Jeff West and are looking for a Big Seven League title and then a run in postseason play.
