Riverside Cyclone, Sam Whiten Helping Cyclones Whirl Past Opponents
Sam Whiten

It has been a whirlwind start to the season for the Riverside lady Cyclones softball team as they sit at 4-0 on the season with sweeps of Troy at home and Maur Hill-Mount Academy on the road last week.

The Cyclones started the season off with a 14-4 win over Troy and then held off the Trojans in the nightcap to claim a 9-8 win and the sweep, before going on the road the next day and handling Maur Hill 16-0 and 20-9 in four and five innings.

A key part of the early season success for the Cyclones has been the play of junior, Sam Whiten who played third and first base twice in the first four games of the season and provided plenty of offense, coming back this season as one of the team leaders in batting average, homers and RBI’s.

Whiten was 5-9 at the plate (.556 avg), blasting a home run, while registering six RBI’s, scoring 11 runs and drawing eight walks and no striking out at all. The junior was on the base pads multiple times to the tune of a .765 on base percentage for Riverside.

The junior and her teammates have things clicking early as the Cyclones have worked out to a 4-0 start to the year and look to continue their momentum to a successful year on the diamond.
