After winning a Class D State title last year in the 100 meter hurdles as just a freshman last year, Mariah Willey came into the track season looking to make a big impact for Pawnee City. She didn't waste time in the season opening meet winning four events and helping the Indians with the Pioneer Conference meet at Doane College last Thursday.
Whether it was on the track or in the field Willey succeeded to open the track season bring home four golds in the 60 meter hurdles, 60 meter dash, high jump and long jump.
On the track Willey posted a time of 9.8 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles claiming the win by nearly one second, while winning the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.4 seconds and half second better than the second place finisher.
In the field events the Pawnee City sophomore leapt to wins in the long jump with a leap of 17'7.75, winning by over two feet and won the high jump with a leap of 5'0.
The four first place finishes by Willey helped propel Pawnee City to a first place team showing at the meet as the Indians tallied 107 total points to claim first by a wide margin as second place was earned with just 64 points.
