It was a big week for the Centralia Panthers last week as they found an offensive groove again and posted a 3-0 week on the court to move to 13-5 on the season and are riding a four-game winning streak.
Last week started off with the Panthers heading to Marysville for a non-league showdown with the 3A school and after a crazy back and forth game the Centralia overcame a 10-point deficit for the win, a key part to that win was the play of junior, John Johnson who posted 15 points in the contest.
Johnson and the Panthers followed that win with an even bigger road win taking down the 1A-DI team in the State in Hanover, handing the Wildcats their first loss of the season with a 76-63 win. John led the charge in the high scoring affair posting a season high 19 points, while three other Panthers registered double figures. The junior and his teammates weren’t down as they capped off the week with another win against a 3A school beating St. Mary’s 65-52 at Centralia and Johnson finished with double figures for the fourth straight game and the 11th team in 18 games.
On the year Johnson has been helping lead the way on a balanced Centralia team, as Johnson leads the team in scoring with 10.1 ppg, is second on the team in rebounds 5.3 rpg and tied for second on the team in steals 1.4 spg, while having seven blocks on the year. Johnson is hitting at a 50% clip from the floor and shooting 71.8% from the free throw line to lead the Panthers in that category, too.
Centralia after a rough patch during the season have won four straight and riding a wave of momentum into the final stretch of the regular season, jumping up to third in the KBCA 1A-DI rankings and looking to have Johnson and company continue their momentum into the postseason.
