The Sabetha Bluejays capped off the regular season of wrestling action in big fashion last Saturday as they won the Big Seven League Tournament crown on their home mats.
Senior, Jacob Leuthold has been leading the way all season for Sabetha on the mats with his performances and senior leadership and that was no different last week as Leuthold was 4-0 in action to improve to 18-2 on the season at the heavyweight division of 285lbs.
The week started off with Sabetha playing host to ACCHS and Marysville for a Double Dual. Leuthold picked up a pinfall win in his match against ACCHS helping the Bluejays to a 44-25 dual win, while picking up the 2-1 decision against Marysville helping Sabetha win that dual via tiebreaker (36-36).
The senior followed that up with a 2-0 showing at the Big Seven League tournament registering two pinfall wins in the Semifinals winning in 2:55 and in the Championship bout claiming the win in 3:24.
Jacob has been strong in his senior year being ranked by the KWCA a majority of the season and currently checks in at second at 285lbs in 3-2-1A in the latest rankings.
Leuthold and his teammates and other area grapplers now turn their attention to Regionals this coming weekend as they look to make a trip to the State tournament.
