Onaga Buffalo Sophomore, Michael Bliss Helping Carry the Load This Year

The Onaga Buffalos have enjoyed success on the football field this season with their 6-3 record and perfect 4-0 district record, giving the Buffaloes a district title and a playoff appearance as they will host Olpe on Friday.

Major part of the Buffalos success this season as come on the ground with a heavy dosage of the running game throughout the season and that with new players taking over the main duties in the backfield. One of those guys that have been shouldering a workload in the backfield as been sophomore, Michael Bliss.

Bliss continued to display a pounding ground attack for the Buffs in their 69-20 win over Herington to close out the regular season, as Michael rushed for 236 yards on 24 carries, while scoring four TD's. Michael was bashing through the line for an impressive 9.8 yards per carry in the final regular season game of the year.

Onaga has been cruising along recently string their best games of the year together in district play with the win over Herington, while also crushing Wabaunsee and Chase County 42-0 and 45-0, respectively. The Buffs only really test in district play came at the hands of Northern Heights to open up district play but the Buffs would score 23 unanswered fourth quarter points to win 43-20. 

Sophomore, Bliss was influential in all those wins in some facet and an integral part to the Buffalos offense all year. Onaga even registered there first Twin Valley League win in seven years, winning against Valley Heights 28-6. Michael carried the ball 32 times in that ball game for 181 yards and two scores. He scored multiple touchdowns in many games this season including the Northern Heights and Riverside games, while also rushing for 120 yards of the 400+ team rushing yards against Immaculata in that Buffalo win.

Michael Bliss and the Onaga Buffalos look to continue their success this season when they play host to Olpe in the first round of the Class 2-1A playoffs. Bliss will surely be a key part of the Buffalos postseason game plan, as he will look to continue to be the workhorse he's been in the backfield this season.
