The Atchison Redmen jumped back on the court in a big way coming out of the holiday just at .500, the Redmen posted big wins in their first two games back on the court after the break.
First game out of the break, Atchison’s offense exploded for 93 points in a 93-36 rout of ACCHS and then followed that up with a 75-50 win over KC Sumner. Multiple players contributed in big ways in both wins to push the Redmen to a 4-2 and #8 ranking in the KBCA 4A-DII rankings, one of those players was the team’s leading scorer, Wykeen Gill.
Gill was feeling it against ACCHS and was quite efficient from shooting the ball on the night on his way to 24 points, as he was a perfect 9-9 from the floor and 6-7 from the free throw line. The junior added four rebounds and three steals to his stat line, in the 93-36 win.
The Redmen followed that win with a KCAL win over KC Sumner, 75-50 and Gill notched 17 points on the night while doing a little bit of everything else on the night, too. Wykeen on top of his 17 points, dished out nine assists, grab a rebound, had three steals and a block.
On the season, Gill leads a team that has three double figure per game scorers, as he averages 19.5 ppg, while his 5 apg and 2.7 spg both lead the team, also. Wykeen also grabs 2.5 rpg and is shooting 54% from the floor on the season.
The Redmen are riding a three-game winning streak and playing well, averaging 62.5 ppg on the season and 75 ppg in the last three and look to continue their momentum through the next stretch this season with Gill helping lead the charge with his teammates playing well round him, too.
