Brett Plattner & Kegan Schumann

The Sabetha Bluejays put together another strong year on the football field with their seventh straight playoff appearance, but since 2008 the team hadn’t finishes above .500 until this year when the Bluejays posted an 8-3 record.
An integral part to the Bluejays success helping them to the playoffs was the dynamic duo in the backfield in seniors, Kegan Schumann and Brett Plattner. The duo led Sabetha’s run oriented offense accounting for 2,429 yards rushing and 25 touchdowns between the both of them as Sabetha won eight games; winning seven of them by 10 or more points.
Schumann out of the backfield ran for 1,213 yards with 12 touchdowns, registering 6.4 yards per carry, while finishing with 56 yards receiving with a touchdown. The impact Kegan had on the team cannot only be measured by this offensive numbers as he finished with 1,367 all-purpose yards, making an impact on special teams; his impact on special teams also stretched in the punting game as he averaged 34 yards per punt. On defense Schumann was a tackling machine for Sabetha this year finishing with 129 tackles and had two interceptions.
His partner in crime in the backfield in Brett Plattner finished with eerily similar rushing numbers to Schumann. Plattner totaled 1,216 yards rushing with 13 touchdowns, posting 7.3 yards per carry average on the season. But just like his partner in the backfield, Plattner’s impact was felt this season in other aspects on the field, finishing with 410 return yards and a return touchdown and totaling 1,626 all-purpose yards. On defense Brett registered 64 tackles and made three interceptions for Sabetha.
Not only their level of play and plays they consistently made, but the leadership Schumann and Plattner displayed played a crucial part to the success of Sabetha on the season and allowed the Bluejays to take flight for a great season.
