Dustin Rottinghaus
|
It's his first year as the starting quarterback for the B&B Falcons as junior, Dustin Rottinghaus has helped lead the Falcons to a perfect 8-0 record, district title and a number one Class 1A-Division II ranking all season.
The Falcons have been a balanced and all around solid team all season, but it was Rottinghaus' performance on the field at home against rival Hanover in a double overtime game that shined above many last Friday. Dustin aired the ball out for the Falcons 14-26 for 143 yards but it was feet of Rottinghaus that did most of the damage rushing for 151 yards on 18 carries and six touchdowns, including the game winning 10 yard score in the second overtime.
Dustin helped lead the Falcons back from a 38-22 deficit against rival Hanover, as the Falcons scored late in game to tie the game and force OT. Rottinghaus scored on a six yard run in the first overtime on fourth and goal, before the game winner in the second overtime.
Not only did Dustin do damage on offense against the Wildcats but he registered his first significant defensive stats this season, as he tallied four tackles and grabbed an interception of his counterpart on the Hanover Wildcats squad.
The Falcons have enjoyed great success this season and for years and this year a big part of the teams success has been Rottinghaus at quarterback. He's thrown for five scores, 657 yards on 48-90 good for a 53.3% completion percentage, while also being the teams second leading rusher with 400 yards on 63 carries and 15 touchdowns.
Rottinghaus' success stems from multiple avenues from his great teammates surrounding him, to his baptism by fire last season at quarterback as a sophomore as he took over for the injured, Eric Huerter down the stretch and in the playoffs for the Falcons. B&B made the state championship game for the fourth straight year and finished as Class 1A-Division II state runner up and 11-1.
With the district title and playoff spot locked up with an 8-0 record, Dustin and his fellow Falcon teammates look primed to make another run deep in the playoffs and get to their fifth straight state title game.
