Oskaloosa lady Bears softball has continued their momentum from a strong fourth place season at 2-1A State last year this season rolling past many opponents to move to 14-0 last week, but the past two wins the Bears came from behind early to sweep McLouth 9-6 and 5-4.

Sophomore, Haidyn Bassett was an integral part in both of those comeback wins for the Bears and has been putting together another stellar softball season together just like her freshman season.

Bassett helped the Bears to both wins with her skills at the plate and in the circle going 4-8 at the plate and picking up the pitching victory in one game and earning the save in the other. In the 5-4 contest, Haidyn from the plate put together a 2-4 showing with a two runs scored, and RBI and homerun, while pitching seven complete innings for the win giving up four-runs on seven hits, one walk and striking out eight. The sophomore added to that performance by going 2-4 with a run scored and RBI in the Bears 9-6 win over McLouth and closed the game out pitching the final two innings, just giving up a walk and striking out three to earn the save.

After a strong freshman season, Haidyn has continued to hit the leather off the ball and baffling hitters from the circle in her sophomore season. Bassett through 14 games this season touts a .568 batting average with 25 hits, while scoring 23 runs and recording 13 RBI’s. Of her 25 hits on the season 12 are extra base hits with six doubles, two triples and four homeruns.

In the circle she’s recorded seven of the Bears 14 wins on the season with a 7-0 record and carries a 0.40 ERA, giving up just 18 hits and four walks on the season while recording 102 strikeouts and picking up three saves.

Bears are looking to close out the season over the next few weeks continuing their momentum and head to Regionals with plenty of confidence to earn a return trip to State and Haidyn Bassett will be a key cog in that run with her teammates down the final stretch of the season.
