Arika Smith

Scoring hasn’t been a problem for Atchison senior, Arika Smith as she has put up big numbers for the Lady Red throughout the season and that trend continued last week as Atchison went 3-0 in action with league wins over KC Washington, KC Sumner and KC Harmon.

Lady Red sit at 8-8 on the season but are currently on a four-game winning streak and Smith is averaging 25.5 ppg in those four wins with a pair of 30-plus point performances. If you go back to February 7^th, Smith went wild for 33 points to lead Atchison past KC Wyandotte, her second best point performance this season (best was 38 points vs. KC Schlagle on January 16^th).

Last week, Arika started off the week putting up a triple-double posting 19 points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds in a 76-53 win over KC Washington. She was 9-11 from the free throw in the win and added five blocks to her triple-double. Smith followed that impressive performance with her third 30-point game of the season, posting 31 points against KC Sumner last Friday in a 57-49 win. Smith then turned around on Saturday and helped led Atchison to a 51-9 thrashing of KC Harmon; a game in which Arika scored 19 points to lead the team.

Smith hasn’t struggled with filling the stat sheet all year as she touts averages of 20.9 ppg, 7 rpg, 3 apg and 3 spg and has only scored below 10 points once this season.

With momentum on their side the Lady Red look to finish off the regular season strong and gear up to make some noise in postseason play in the weeks to come.
