B&B Falcons Put Final Touches on Dominant Football Program with State Title
B&B Falcon Football Team

For a school that has enjoyed athletic dominance for years coming into their final year as a school the expectations were high and for good reason for the B&B Falcons.

The football team was coming off a state championship and looking to repeat as state champs for the first time in school history and go out on top of the championship perch once more and that they did finishing 12-1 and topping Wallace County 42-19 to win the 8-Man Division II State title.

Falcons captured their fifth state title in school history and put the final stamp on a dominant program that over the past six years played in a state championship, winning four and amassing a 75-3 record over that time.

After opening the season with a tough one-point loss to Madison the Falcons sailed past the rest of their opponents to end the year on a 12 game winning streak, dispatching opponents by an average of 38 points per game.

For B&B they got it done in all phases of the game and were led by the aerial assault on offense as the team posted 50.8 points per game and scored 50 or more points in all but three times on the season. Senior quarterback, Dustin Rottinghaus was the maestro of the offense finishing the season with 2,666 yards passing on 55.9% completion percentage, while tossing for 46 TD’s and only six interceptions and rushing for 14 TD’s.

Rottinghaus had plenty of weapons to work with all season as seniors, Cameron Haug and Blake Deters totaled 997 and 1,172 yards receiving, respectively on the season while catching 14 and 23 TD’s, also. Sophomore, Neil Sudbeck lead the ground attack leading the team with 472 yards rushing and posting seven TD’s, while senior’s, Brendan Bergman and Dylan Schmitz proved to be key guys throughout the year.

On the defensive end it was a pair of linebackers leading a crew that gave up just 12.8 points per game and touted a +41 turnover margin; forcing 50 takeaways on the season. Derek Mueting lead the way with 135 tackles on the season, while posting five sacks, two interceptions, six fumble recoveries and a pair of forced fumbles, too. Cole Deters joined Mueting in the 100+ tackle category, posting 102 total tackles, while also registering two sacks, two interceptions and six fumble recoveries.

The Falcons fly past the competition this season and in the playoffs as they vanquished the Southern Cloud Warriors in the first round (50-0), collared the Waverly Bulldogs in the second round (50-0), declawed the Hanover Wildcats in the Semifinals (60-14) and tamed the Wallace County Wildcats (42-19) in the State Championship.

B&B Falcons program will forever be remember for their great success on the football and athletics in general as the football team put the final stamp on a dominant program this year with a State title in the school’s final game.
