After a year to adjust to the Division I level, get stronger and get familiar with the system former Hiawatha Red Hawk, Emily Gartner has jumped into the fold and earned playing time with the Missouri State lady Bears.
Missouri State sits at 9-8 on the season and have won three in a row. After a redshirt season last year Gartner is averaging 7.6 minutes per game this season and has seen action in 16 of the 17 games. The former Hiawatha Red Hawk notched a college best six points in a win over Central Missouri, while recording a best seven rebounds in the latest Bears win coming against Bradley. On the season Gartner is averaging 1.8 points and 2.6 rebounds per game as she is 12-38 from the field (31.6%) and 5-10 from the free throw line.
While Gartner has seen action in 16 of the 17 games this season she’s recorded points in 10 of the 16 games played and has grabbed two or more rebounds in 11 games.
In high school Gartner was a strong competitor and multi-sport athlete. She finished her Red Hawk career as the all-time scoring and rebound leader at Hiawatha and surpassed 1,000 points in her career, too. Emily was a second team All-State selection her senior year in which she average 21.7 points, 13 rebounds and seven blocks per game and also earned first team All-Big Seven League honors. She also was a strong track competitor winning the 3A discus title her junior year and taking fourth her senior year.
Emily just young into her college basketball career looks to continue to build upon her experience at Missouri State and continue to develop and make an impact for the Bears.
