Making the jump from high school to college in sports comes with adjustments and with a year under her belt at Kansas Wesleyan former Axtell Eagle, Courtney Heinen is making a strong impact for the women’s Coyotes basketball team.
The lady Coyotes are off to a 5-4 start to the season and Heinen has played in all nine games as she’s in her sophomore campaign with the team. Through the first nine contests the former Axtell Eagle is averaging 7.4 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game. Courtney filled the stat sheet against Bethany posting a 15 point performance adding four rebounds, three steals and two blocks to her night in the win. Heinen also had a pair of 12 point performances this season coming against Mid-America Christian and Northern New Mexico, hitting 4-5 three-pointers against Northern New Mexico.
Heinen in her freshman campaign saw action in 14 games averaging 5.4 points, 1.3 rebounds, while playing quite a bit on the junior varsity team for the Coyotes.
In high school Heinen helped the Axtell Eagles post their best finish in school history on the basketball court as the lady Eagles finished Class 1A-DII State runner-up her senior year. She averaged 17.8 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.3 steals per game her senior season and was selected first team All-Twin Valley League and second team All-State. Heinen was a multi-sport athlete helping the lady Eagle volleyball team take second at State her senior year and third her junior year, while also competing in track and field.
The lady Coyotes riding a three-game winning streak after a win over Ottawa look to continue to find success and Heinen strives to be a key piece to the puzzle for the team this season.
