Former Riverside Cyclone, Cole Hinton Fitting In at Highland & Continuing His Running Career

Former Riverside Cyclone, Cole Hinton has found success as he continues his running career and does so locally at Highland Community College.

The Wathena native has consistently been a Top four performer for the Highland cross country team this season has he’s in his sophomore season with the Scotties. Hinton recently raced to a time of 17:03.2 at the Johnson County Community College Alumni Run and finished ninth helping the Scotties take second as a team.

Over the course of the season Hinton has continued to improve along his teammates and has recorded some strong performances. At Emporia State with a time of 29:30.16 the former Riverside Cyclone earned 50th out of 138 runners, while taking 61st place at the Southern Stampeded at Missouri Southern (27:58.73) competing in a field 213 runners. He also competed at the Fort Hays State Open placing 81st out of 202 runners (28:24.5) and finished 200th at the Augie Twilight (22:55.70).

As a freshman Hinton was part of the Scotties 15th place finish at the National NJCAA Championships which is the second best in school history since the Cross Country Division merge. Hinton posted a 193rd finish at Nationals with a time of 28:43. He also competes in the distance running competitions during the track and field season.

Back in high school Hinton capped his Riverside running career in strong fashion making the 3A State meet and finishing 26th out of 106 runners and during the year took fourth at the Big Seven League meet. He also won the 3A 1600 meter run at State and finished fifth in the 3200 meter run.

Hinton looks to close out the cross country season strong with his team as they will compete at the Region VI Championships in Garden City on Monday, October 30th and then at the NJCAA National Championships on Saturday, November 11th in Fort Dodge, IA.
