Former Atchison Redmen, Jerel Rawls Sprinting to Top Performances

Sprinting to top flight finishes former Atchison Redmen, Jerel Rawls didn’t have to go far to continue to do that in the college level as he’s continuing his track career at Benedictine College and has done well in competition.

Now a sophomore, Rawls has posted several Top 10 performances in the 200 and 400 meter dashes, along with competing on the relay teams for Benedictine. In the outdoor season this year at the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championships a time of 49.86 earned Rawls fourth place out of 21 competitors in the 400 meter dash, while he was part of the 4x400 meter relay team (3:29.55) that took sixth and also finished 17th out of 27 competitors in the 200 meter dash (22.88). While during the season he recorded several Top 10 performances in the sprint races of 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes.

Back in the indoor track season this year the former Atchison Redmen earned a third place finish with a time of 50.33 in the 400 meter dash at the HAAC Championships and picked up third team All-HAAC honors, also. Rawls also finished sixth as part of the 4x400 meter relay team (3:31.88) and eighth in the 200 meter dash (23.24) at the same event.

As a freshman Rawls racked up several Top 10 finishes competing in the 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes throughout the indoor and outdoor seasons and also was a part of the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams.

In high school Rawls was a multi-sport athlete and his senior year in track competed at the State track meet in Class 4A and placed fourth in the 400 meter dash.

Rawls looks to continue to build upon his success at Benedictine as he continues his track career.
