Passion for the game of basketball is something that is quite apparent when it comes to Seneca native and former Nemaha Valley Raider, Patrick Schulte and he continues that passion for the game today at Oklahoma State University with their men’s basketball team as the team’s video coordinator.
Schulte joined Cowboys head coach, Brad Underwood’s coaching staff before the beginning of the current season taking the video coordinator position for the Cowboys, breaking down game film, gathering scouting info and coordinating game film exchanges. The former Nemaha Valley Raider got into the coaching scene after playing college basketball two years at Cloud County upon graduating high school.
At Cloud County from 2008-2010 Schulte played in 62 games and was a key piece of the Thunderbirds teams each year. His freshman season he averaged 8.8 points per game, along with 1.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game, while leading the KJCCC in free throw percentage 92% and ranking second in the conference in three-point field goal percentage 44.4%. Sophomore year saw Schulte average 6.2 points per game, along with 2.1 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.
After two years at Cloud, Patrick transferred to Kansas State University and joined the men’s basketball as a student manager and was in that role for three seasons, meeting Frank Martin and Underwood in the process. Underwood took the head coaching spot at Stephan F. Austin and brought in Schulte as his video coordinator where Patrick was for two years, until going to South Carolina to join the staff of Frank Martin as the Gamecocks video coordinator last year then Schulte rejoined Underwood as his video coordinator now at Oklahoma State.
As a Nemaha Valley Raider Schulte helped the Raiders take second in Class 3A in 2008 and was named a first team All-State player his senior year.
Oklahoma State currently sits at 17-9 on the year and 6-7 in the Big 12 and Schulte looks to continue to help the team perform well this season.
