Trent Tanking

You never know when opportunity will come your way but when it does taking advantage of that opportunity is key to achieve goals. Former Holton Wildcat, Trent Tanking has done just that seizing every opportunity he’s had to continue to play a game he loves in football and play it at a high level as a Kansas State Wildcat.

Tanking seized an opportunity in the regular season finale as he was pushed into action at linebacker after an injury in the game against TCU and he came up big in role as he has been serving as a backup linebacker all year. The former Holton Wildcat notched five tackles in the game but also recorded his first collegiate interception in the Kansas State 30-6 win over TCU.

Opportunities have come for Tanking throughout his Kansas State career joining the Wildcats in 2013 as a walk-on and redshirted that season. Kansas State needing some help on special teams Tanking joined that unit in 2014 and took advantage of his opportunity recording nine tackles on the season with seven on special teams, which ranked fifth on the team that year. During his career at Kansas State in now three seasons the Holton product has recorded 35 tackles an interception and pair of pass defenses playing 33 games in his career. Tanking has totaled 19 tackles this year between special teams and defense.

As a Holton Wlidcat, Trent capped his high school career helping guide Holton to the 2012 4A State football title going 14-0. He was named the Class 4A Defensive Player of Year and earned All-State honors at linebacker his senior year, while also playing in the Kansas Shrine Bowl being named the “Most Outstanding Player” award on the East team. Tanking also earned All-Big Seven League football honors his sophomore, junior and seniors year and was honorable mention All-State his sophomore and junior years.

Now in his junior year, Tanking is continuing to make the best of his opportunities and making an impact for the Kansas State Wildcat football program. The Wildcats are 8-4 on the season and set to go bowling for the 18th time under Coach Bill Snyder and will play former Big 12 foe in Texas A&M in the Texas Bowl on Wednesday, December 28th at 8:00pm.
