This week’s “Blast from the Past” is Holton native Matt Mattox, who continues to grow his role as the co-offensive coordinator at UTSA.
Matt was elevated by UTSA to the co-offensive coordinator position before the start of this season after spending the previous two years as the run-game coordinator and offensive line coach.
While he was the run-game coordinator, UTSA broke single season school records for rushing yards, rushing yards per game, yards per carry and rushing touchdowns.
This season, they broke school records for total points, points per game, first downs, total offense, and yards per game. The Roadrunners offense this season was ranked 10th nationally as they averaged nearly 474 yards per game.
UTSA is 11-2 overall and they finished the season ranked 25th in the final college football playoff poll while winning the Conference USA Championship over North Texas on Dec. 2nd.
The Roadrunners will face off against 24th ranked Troy in the Cure Bowl on Friday, December 16th at 2:00 PM in Orlando with the game nationally televised on ESPN.
Matt was a Second Team All-American at tight end during his stint at Butler Community College. He played his final two collegiate seasons at Houston as he was moved to offensive tackle.
In 2003, he helped the Cougars to a 7-6 record and Hawaii Bowl appearance while garnering Second Team All-Conference USA honors.
